The Pros and Cons of Veneers
Everyone has seen the actors and actresses with million-dollar smiles. Their teeth seem to glisten from miles away. Celebrities weren’t born with these picture-perfect smiles. In fact, many of these famous people owe their pearly whites to the success of porcelain veneers. At Absolute Smile, we know that having a smile that makes you proud is important. We do whatever we can to see that our customers feel confident in their appearance, and we help them accomplish their dental goals.
While it can be tempting to decide that veneers are the perfect solution for a wonderful smile, they aren’t for everyone. At Absolute Smile, we take pride in offering the best advice possible so that our dental clients can make the best possible decisions for their smile. It’s important to be familiar with what veneers are and how they work. It’s equally important to be aware of the fact that there are both pros and cons to having them.
Veneers are basically thin slices of porcelain that get molded to fit your individual teeth. They are then attached to the front of your tooth with the desired outcome of improving the look of your teeth. Sounds great. Right? They are often recommended because of their pros: They help change the size of a tooth that is discolored, chipped, or irregularly shaped. People feel more confident with the look of their teeth when they opt for veneers. This is definitely a pro. With most veneers, it’s almost impossible to tell that they are even on top of your teeth. There’s virtually no maintenance required, which also makes them appealing. However, there are a few drawbacks to having veneers, as well.
One of the obvious cons of veneers is that they never change color over time. This means that as you get older and the rest of your teeth gradually change color, the veneers will not. Many people find that this creates an awkward look in the mouth. Another possible con is that depending on your dental insurance, veneers can be rather expensive, with some costing in the thousands. At Absolute Smile, we can help you decide if veneers are the best choice for your individualized dental needs.
