With the holiday season in full swing, you might notice that you’ve been eating more sweets than usual. It’s not always easy keeping the temptations at bay, especially when there are so many delicious goodies to choose from. With sweets popping up almost everywhere you go, being naughty to your teeth can feel unavoidable. Luckily, the American Dental Association has a few great tips and Absolute Smile is here to share them with you.
1.Stick with a routine.
One of the best ways to be nice to your teeth during the holiday season is by establishing a good dental hygiene routine and sticking to it. Brushing at least twice a day for two minutes is ideal. You should also be sure to floss at least twice a day, as well. If you travel frequently over the holidays, be sure to pack a travel toothbrush so you’re prepared.
2.Choose veggies when possible.
It can be hard to stay away from all of the cookies and candies when you’re out celebrating the holidays, but try to choose as many vegetables as you can if they are accessible. Carrots, broccoli and celery are all great options for healthy treats.
3. Stay current with your dental check-ups.
Even if you’re busy over the holidays, it’s still important to make time for the dentist. Check your calendar and schedule an appointment for a cleaning and an exam if you haven’t seen your dental provider recently.
4.Drink water.
Drinking water is an excellent way to keep some of the sugar out of your mouth. Try to avoid drinking juice, soda sports drinks whenever possible. Water is always a better choice. If you absolutely must succumb to the sugary drink options, it’s best to try and brush as soon as possible afterward.
